Since 2022 MetanoiaX studio has been researching and referencing protein folds as a contemporary art practice. Solving the protein folding problem is a crucial topic of our era, as it could revolutionise medicine, drug development and our understanding of biology. Recent breakthroughs, like DeepMind's AlphaFold, have made significant strides in predicting protein structures accurately, which were previously a complex challenge. This could accelerate the discovery of treatments for diseases, improve biotechnology, and contribute to advancements in various fields related to health and science.

In contemporary art, solving the protein folding problem can be seen as a metaphor for the intersection of science, technology and human understanding. MetanoiaX explores how these complex processes influence life and innovation, by re-creating protein structures as paintings and sculptures.

This project continues to move through different stages of development, with an initial period of research followed by digital drawings taking reference directly from AlphaFold. Now the project is moving into the conceptualisation of 3D sculptures as visiualised by dream AI, 3D printed prototypes and the sourcing of sustainable materials for execution to reach net zero goals.
